With Delhi having been categorised as the most unsafe Indian city for senior citizens, a 66-year- old man has come to the Delhi High Court seeking protection from his own son.

Rajvir Sharma, a Vijay Vihar resident, came to the high court with a plea that his wife and he be allowed to live rest of their lives peacefully and with self-respect.

And it is his own younger son who has made his life miserable, he alleged. The high court on Monday issued notices to his son and also the area SHO.

Petitioner's counsel Amit Kumar said his client is being harassed, beaten and threatened by his 22-year-old son for non-fulfillment of his day-to-day unreasonable expenses.

Feeling unsafe and insecure, the petitioner filed complaint with police station Vijay Vihar on August 2, and called a PCR on August 17, but the police failed to take any action on his complaint.

"Being aggrieved by the non-action of the police against his son, the petitioner has approached this Hon’ble Court for seeking directions to the police to ensure the safety and security of the petitioner and his wife from his own son," Kumar said.

The petitioner has two sons. He elder son is married and lives separately with his wife and children.

The younger son is a bachelor and spends all money on his needs and addictions, while continuing to be dependent on the petitioner for accommodation and food.

"The petitioner has to work as a labourer in this old age, in a private company at Rithala, New Delhi, in order to maintain himself as well as his 65-year-old wife," said Kumar, while adding that neither of the two sons support the parents in any manner.

The senior citizen told the court that he has no complaint with any of his sons for not supporting his wife and him, because he earns enough for the two of them and that they simply want to lead rest of their lives peacefully with dignity and self-respect.

He also told the court that the younger son beats him up, kicks and uses abusive language with him under the influence of liquor and drugs, if he refuses to give him money.
