The Supreme Court has dismissed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP leader) Ashish Khetan's plea seeking police protection for himself and also framing of guidelines for agencies to deal with such cases.

A bench headed by Justice Adarsh Goel said: "No one trusts the police. They must investigate such cases.”

The court asked Khetan to move before the appropriate high court.

Khetan's counsel Kapil Sibal argued that his client is of a cabinet rank and was getting threats. He also wrote to the police but nothing is happening.

In a petition, Khetan sought police cover for himself and for framing of guidelines to provide protection to citizens facing threat from radical outfits.

Khetan also alleged that he received death threats from a “right-wing” organisation and should be given police protection.

He is the vice-chairman of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, a rank equivalent to that of a cabinet minister in the Delhi government.

Khetan had filed the petition under the rule that allows a citizen to seek direct intervention of the top court on the ground that his fundamental rights were being violated.
