Gujarat High Court on Monday quashed an FIR against certain lawyers who had restrained another lawyer from attending Court proceedings in view of the boycott resolution passed by the Bar Association. The FIR was filed with Anand Police Station, upon an order passed by a local Court. Justice J.B. Pardiwala quashed the FIR in view of the settlement reached between the two parties.

On the date of the incident, the Bar Association had resolved to abstain from the work so far as the Court of 2nd Senior Civil Judge, V.D. Parmar was concerned. Advocate Geetaben Gupta however attended the Court proceedings, despite the resolution of the Bar Association. The Bar Association however, did not approve of this.

Advocate Gupta then approached the Court, which passed an order to lodge an FIR against the lawyers accused of restraining the lady lawyer from entering the courtroom. Accordingly, four lawyers - Gaurang Pandya, Ghanshyam Sharma, Mahendra Panjabi and Chandrakant Patel were booked under section 341 of the IPC. She had hence alleged in the FIR that she was wrongly restrained from attending the proceedings by the other lawyers.

The FIR was however quashed as Advocate Gupta submitted before the Court that the dispute had been amicably resolved. “I say and submit that due to intervention of Senior Members of the Bar the dispute between the petitioners and myself came to be settled. A compromise deed also executed on 13th September, 2015,” the affidavit filed in the Court stated.
