Settle 2021: Online Campaign For Better Mediation Culture In Kerala [Registration Open]

About Inaugural session

Dr KT Jaleel, Minister for Higher Education, will inaugurate Settle 2021 via Zoom at 5.30pm on 5 March 2021. Prof Dr Sabu Thomas, the Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, will preside over the inaugural session.

About the Campaign

Settle 2021 consists of four international panel discussions on recent developments in mediation, a mock national-level mediation contest for law schools, 25 awareness sessions to selected organizations across Kerala including law schools, trade bodies and professional associations, two workshops - one for the law students and one for young lawyers, and a faculty capacity building programme for the law teachers.

With 60+ sessions spread over 35+ days, 40+ speakers from across the world and 100+ hours of interactions, Settle 2021 is the biggest online campaign yet in the Kerala legal industry. It specifically aims to (a) generate wider interest in, and acceptance of, mediation as a dispute resolution tool in Kerala, and (b) equip professionals and emerging professionals with knowledge and skills to take an active role in mediation.

Panel Discussions

The international panel discussions include the following:

• Observations on the Impact of Pandemic on Mediation (Friday, 5 March 2021, 6 pm IST)
• Singapore Convention on Mediation & Some National Perspectives (Friday, 12 March 2021, 6 pm IST)
• The Prospects and Challenges as Online Mediation becomes more Real (Friday, 19 March 2021, 6 pm IST)
• Mediation in India: What lies ahead? (Saturday, 27 March 2021, 6 pm IST)

Commencement of Events

The Settle 2021 will commence on 1 March 2021 with an awareness session at the Co-Operative School of Law, and has events scheduled for every day of March 2021 and some in May, June and July 2021.

Settle 2021 will entirely be conducted via Zoom video-conferencing application.
